Remember the Almo

I have spent tweleve days trying to eat my way out of Texas with no luck. I’ve had to extend my trip just to ensure I have tasted every restaurant San Antonio has to offer. I’m scared to even go near a scale, I must have gained back every pound I lost. Anyway I am so behind in blogging that to write it all down will take too long. So instead I will just write it out in bullets.

highlights from my trip:

  • McDonalds has a 50 piece Chicken nugget out here. It comes in a reusable tote you can use to store left overs.
  • Two days in the car with two kids wasn’t bad at all.
  • Gavin is now obsessed with the La Quinta inn. He walks around just whispering La Quinta under his breath.
  • Sea world was so much fun. Both Gavin and Keaton fed dolphins.
  • My niece Jocelin is probably the cutest baby ever.
  • I do not miss snow.
  • Its humid here.
  • I got sick with what was probably the swine flu and had to take 3 naps each day to recover.
  • My sister in law Wendy is awesome and I’ve probably annoyed the crap out of her with my obnoxiousness. So has Kara.
  • Spending the day at a Texas DMV is the best way to spend your 29th birthday.
  • Chipotle is too far away from Kara’s house so we’ve only eaten there once.
  • My sister Kara is rude and I hope she gets the swine flu too.
  • The kids have had a blast playing together and the thought of leaving and seperating them is too sad so I just keep extending my trip.
  • We’ve seen 4 movies and gone out to eat almost every meal.
  • We’ve soaked up the sun, the boys even went swimming.
  • Gavin and Keaton went on their first roller coaster at Sea World. It lasted 12 seconds and they loved every second of it.
  • We went to the Night in Old San Antonio. Its a big party to celebrate Fiesta which is some Texas Holiday. Anyway there were so many people we couldn’t move. It didn’t stop us from filling up on all sorts of good eats and $4 margaritas. It was a lot of fun.
  • We went to the San Antonio Missions yesterday and it was beautiful.
  • We also walked on the riverwalk and had dinner. Also beautiful.
  • I’ve slept in, taken naps, and just lazed.
  • I am going to miss the sunshine!

You can check out all the pictures of our trip here.

Oh to Texas we will go!

The boys and I are leaving for Texas tomorrow at the crack of dawn. Twenty plus hours in a car with two kids is indeed going to test my parenting skills. However I am well prepared. We have the DVD player, the nintendo DS, the Zune for Gavin (so he can rock out to Fallout Boy), 4 new color wonders kits, 2 new sticker books, and various other things to keep them busy. When all else fails I bought chewable Dramamine to sneak into their sippy cups. I feel drugging kids is the only humane way to travel with them.

We will be stopping one night in New Mexico. The kids have never stayed in a hotel before. I was telling Gavin about the hotel today and his only concern was “Can we jump on the beds?”. Well of course! They’re not my beds! Tear the room up, break a lamp or two! Keaton’s so excited because I told him the Hotel has a pool. I don’t know why because last summer he didn’t like the pool all that much.

We’ll be back on the 26th but I’ll be blogging from Texas I’m sure, I mean there is only so much the Lone Star state has to offer right? My sister does live 2 miles from Sea World so we will be going there. I think Gavin peed his pants a little when I told him. Back in January when my sister Kara came out she got them all excited about going. He talked about it for weeks after she left. One time he got his shoes on and said he was going to San Antonio. The kid is an animal nut!

Anyway we will see you all on the flip side.

Feel his Rath

I have fallen off the wagon big time as far as my dieting is concerned. I have gained back 10lbs of the 30lbs I had lost being in the south beach diet. Since Christmas I have been fighting a losing battle to get back on the diet. Lately I’ve been pushing myself one step closer to being insulin dependent with all the candy and goodies I eat. Last night after eating half a bag of starburst jelly beans and feeling like the biggest lady this side of the rocky mountains. I got down on my knees and prayed to god to make candy taste like ass. Then I went to bed.

This morning I woke up feeling a little queasy. I brushed it off as just being a post candy binge hang over belly ache. You’d think with all the shit I eat my body would just be used to it by now. As the day pushed on I just felt worse and worse. By late afternoon I was in so much pain I had to lay down. I slept on and off for 3 hours. I woke up puking and feeling so bad I couldn’t move. Now 4 hours, 1 large fizzy soda, and several trips to empty the contents of my stomach later, I’m finally feeling a tiny bit better. I keep getting these waves of pain though, I may just have to sleep it off.

Be careful what you pray for people. Lesson learned God, lesson learned.

My 5 year Blogiversary

Tomorrow marks the 5th year anniversary of the start of my blog. Back then my blog was called Little Baby G and Gavin was just a bean in my stomach. My blog has seen a lot transpire in its years. Its seen us through buying our home, getting married, 2 kids getting cut from my stomach, one near death experience, two bouts with PPD, first birthdays, first steps, first nervous breakdowns. This blog has documented our existence as a family from day one. It may sound lame, but this blog is one of my biggest accomplishments. For someone who gets bored with things easily, I am surprised I have lasted this long.

I’ve also made some awesome friends from blogging. Some that I am friends with only through the internet, and others who I have now befriended in the real world. So with all that sappy crap out of the way I’d love for you all to do me a favor and comment and tell me how long you’ve been reading about the Grote’s. Delurk if you gotta!

Foto Friday: To T.T. on your third birthday

Happy 3rd Birthday Keaton!

Dear T.T.

Today is your third birthday. I must say that you turning three feels very different from when your brother turned three. He seemed so much older – so dignified. While you seem to forever stay my soft, chubby, sweet little baby boy. Before you, your Daddy and I were just two people who loved a little boy. You were the one who turned us into a family.

April 2 is World Autism Awareness Day!

waad_email_logo

April 2, countries around the globe will commemorate World Autism Awareness Day. It’s a time to shine a light on autism, to awaken public understanding of the crisis, and to accelerate support for research and services.

This is a cause that is of course close to my heart. Whether you know me in the real world or through the computer, you know that my 4 1/2 year old son Gavin has autism. You may also know about all the struggles we’ve had getting him help and getting him a correct diagnosis. You’d think is a world where ever 20 minutes a child is diagnosed with autism, that families would not have to struggle to get help for  their autistic son or daughter. They wouldn’t have to bankrupt themselves trying to get therapies that are crucial. We have the tools to help children with autism have a better life, yet still its a fight.

I am sure we all have a friend, a neighbor, a family member, a son, or a  daughter with autism. Help get the word out. Help make autism a thing of the past. Do it for them. Do it for Gavin.
