Springtime is upon us:
Monthly Archive for February, 2008
It seems Gavin will go long periods of time with no improvement, or sometimes it will even seem he is regressing. Then there will 2-3 months where the kid just starts developing so many new abilities all at once. More words, more communication skills, more social skills, overall he just acts less autistic. Right now he is in one of this Developmental Booms. Its always feels so good when he goes through these. I can stop panicking for a little while. I can relax, kick back, and just truly enjoy him without that constant feeling of “I am not doing enough for him”. this is not to say that during these times of improvement, I don’t scamper to try to figure out what has changed to cause it. I try my best to pinpoint where we’ve gone right to bring on the normalcy.
Keaton has a mild obsession with shoes. Well mild if you interpret it as “totally over the top in love with anything and everything to do with footwear”. From the minute I come into his room in the morning to snag him out of his crib he is already asking for his shoes. Some nights even sleeps in them (they are soft shoes). When we go downstairs he will immediately locate his shoes and proceed to harass me with his “shoes, more shoes, shoes on, shoes please” until I put them on. He even insists on wearing them over his footie jammies. He has a panic attack when I have to take them off for diaper changes, nap time, or getting dressed. He makes sure I remember to put them back on by saying “shoes, okay shoes, okay?”.
I just wanted to wish a very Happy Birthday to my little nephew Clark (aka the Big Tuna). My brother and sis in law are in Utah for a little while, and we get to go to his B-day party today. We are all excited and I have been teaching Gavin to say Happy Birthday Tuna all day.
We all love you so much Tuna!!!!
(PS, April I hope you don’t mind I swipped this picture from ya!)
- My laptop wireless card killed over a few weeks ago. After an hour on the phone with a guy who spoke no English I had to ship it back to get repaired. So I had to use our ancient desktop computer that Gavin has made half dead with all his PBS.org. Well it ended up killing over. Seven years ago I did tech support, so I think I am an expert. Anyway to make a long story short, I dropped Mongolian Beef inside the computer frying the beejesus out of everything. So now we are the owners of a new super fast computer. Only problem was, up until my Laptop came back today, I was fighting my 3 year old to check my email. The kid is addicted to that new machine. He can run PBS and Noggin at the same time. So kick ass says the G.
- My knee is all healed up. I had an X-ray and apparently I strained something. So I have to wear this wrap when I work out, Yadda Yadda. i am not down 13lbs. Woot! Continue reading ‘Our life in Bullets-Chapter 300′
Today we made the decision to for-go Gavin’s diet. He’d been off dairy for one entire week and if anything, the kid was in a better mood. I emailed his teacher on Thursday and asked her how he was doing this week. I explained to her he is back on dairy so we were just curious how his attitude and behavior were there. She emailed back just gushing about how he’s had one of the best weeks in a long time. His diarrhea stopped instantly as well. He seemed to be just fine going off the dairy, so we thought, why not gluten too? At least now he can go in an get his allergy tests done. Continue reading ‘On the Diet front’
Gavin is a very peculiar child. Some times he has me guessing which planet he came from. One thing I do know is that said planet must have been obsessed with computers much like Gavin is. You see Gavin has formed his own language. It is based on the Playhouse Disney website and PBS.org. I will share an example of how strange and amusing his computer speech is.
Little back story. Last night the boys got 2 HUGE balls from target (so they are new and the best toys in the house for the moment). Today Gavin was playing with the balls in the kitchen and “role playing” if you will. (which is good, shows the boy has an imagination.) It went something like this (remember this is all a one sided conversation. I never said a word)….
Now that Gavin has made a fun recovery from Christmas. Yesterday afternoon we decided it was time to see how well this diet is really working out for Gavin. We have reintroduced Dairy to his diet. We will stay Gluten free until we see how the Dairy pans out. If he seems to regress or whatever is supposed to happen, then we will pull him off dairy again. So far today he is acting just like he always acts. Right now he is running around making sound effects with his stuffed cat.
