Keaton Beck

You are one of my favorite parts of waking up each day.

You are so helpful, compassionate, caring, and awesome.

Your little face can change a mood.

You are simply irresistible.

Cavities

The boys went for their second dental check-up today and came out with 5 cavities between them. Two belonging to the little one, and three for Gavin. How did they manage to get so many cavities in 6 FREAKING MONTHS? Sure, I am not the perfect mom who brushes her kids teeth twice a day. But I try. I really try. I floss. I brush for two minutes. I try to encourage them to drink more water and less sugary drinks.

This is the end though. I think I got cocky with their lack of cavities last time. I started to slack off assuming they just had great genes and I didn’t need to brush. Not anymore. I let the dentist talk me into a sonic care tooth brush for them (turns out its kick ass). I bought more kids flossers and just put in an order for some xylitol products. The dentist said no more sippy cups. So I am weaning them and only allowing water if they want one. I am not worried about Gavin. He rarely takes a sippy cup except for breakfast. Keaton on the other hand still calls it a “Bah-Bah” and walks around with the damned thing hanging from his teeth all-day-long. I am even guilty of putting soda in it for him. I’m so ashamed.

I am going hardcore folks. I refuse to shell out $200 every 6 months for dental work. Total in the passed 8 months we’ve paid out almost a grand for our family and their lack of great dental hygiene. Well no more! Our family is going to brush twice a day and floss. We are going to avoid sugar and excessive snacking. We are going to try our damnedest not to have cavities at our next check ups. The End!

In other news we saw Gav’s adult teeth just under the surface of his baby teeth. They think he should start losing teeth very soon. I got so sentimental. I never want him to grow up. If I could just keep him at this age forever I would. I love his baby teeth. I am going to miss them when they’re gone. Literally one more step toward moving out and leaving me forever. Why God Why?

52 weeks of pictures: Week 3

Yesterday was Pajama day at Keaton’s preschool. He was pretty excited about it. He has been anxious all week to get to school and wear his “Ja-Jamas”. He wore his car pajamas because he says they are his favorite (and they are new, so they aren’t stained and gross). He also insisted on wearing the train slippers he got for Christmas. He looked so darn cute waiting to leave for school, I had to take pictures.

PJ Day

If I had a day job, I wouldn’t quit it.

My Keaton has this hair. Its my favorite kind of hair. Its blond, and soft, and long, and shaggy in all the right places. I have literally swooned over how perfect his hair is. The only problem with it is that is grows faster than John’s back hair. It gets long, and then it won’t lay flat, and he constantly looks like Einstein. This is the tail end of the “Keaty B. perfect hair schedule”. The schedule works like this:

  • Hair gets really long
  • Take Boy in for haircut
  • Explain exactly how I want it cut
  • The lady hears “blah blah blah”
  • Keaton’s hair ends up way too short
  • I mourn for what feels like weeks
  • Hair starts to grow back and hits the perfect length
  • Three weeks later his hair is everywhere (Screaming infidelities and taking its wear)

Rinse and Repeat

This time I took initiative. I broke the cycle. I sat him down and decided I would just “trim” it a bit. Thirty-Seven minutes later I realize that I have only heard the word “blend” but I have no idea how to make it a reality. I finally give up because Keaton is screaming about how itchy his back is. I convince myself it doesn’t look that bad.

Oy, it is that bad. Oh but that face, that perfect little face. It makes up for it. In a few weeks it will be perfect again. For now I will just put him in hats.

The one where I sacrifice my children to the cold

1

Winter in Utah is relentless. I enjoy it up until December 26th. After that, you will hear me do nothing but bitch and moan until spring. My kids are worse. They don’t even enjoy Christmas snow. Any time they get snow on their shoes or feel even the tiniest bite of the cold, they cry like babies. They don’t like to play in the snow like normal kids, either. When I was their age I loved to get bundled up and go out and play. Not the Bosko/Grotegut offspring. No way! At least they are willing to walk in it this year. Last year I had to carry them everywhere.

I need to move somewhere tropical.

Don’t let his smile fool you. He was whining the entire time.

Why are you taking my picture and not taking me some place warm?

A new Perspective

Keaton spent most of this afternoon wearing an old pair of Gavin’s glasses. I had to physically force them off his face when he wouldn’t listen to reason. When I did finally manage to pry them off of him, I noticed he was cross eyed for a full 30 seconds afterwords. Keaton was not happy at all with my ever cruel decision to hide his “glassies”.  There was a lot of crying and carrying on, and a couple of “I CAN’T seeeeee, I need my GLASSIES” thrown in for effect.

Years from now he will be explaining to Maury Povich just how horrible his mom was for not allowing him to destroy his eye site with prescription eyeglasses.

Gavin Spielberg

Gavin at work

In a weak moment while in the furthest depths of potty training Hell. I may have inadvertently  promised Gavin that he could make a movie every day if he would just stop pooping his pants. Well, it took sixteen LONG months, but he’s been potty trained for an entire month now. Today I had to make good on my promise and let him make a video. He and Keaton opened a McKinz (McDonald’s for webkinz) and used the front window as a drive up window. I would post the video but he decided to go through and delete them all. I have no idea why, other than he could.

Now time to track down the flip and hide it, and maybe he will forget my promise?

Keaton’s first day of school

First day of Preschool
Keaton's new backpack

Keaton started school this week. He is going to a cute little neighborhood preschool twice a week. For as shy as Keaton is, he sure didn’t act that way on his first day. He practically ran into his class never looking back. I had to call him back to get a picture of him in his classroom. When I came to pick him up he was just ecstatic. Apparently they finger painted and made hand prints with paint. He could not stop talking about it.
In his classroom

Gavin will start Monday and I will post about his first day then. On Tuesday both boys will be in school and I will have two full hours all to myself. Ahh, so nice!

The Dentist

On Thursday the boys had their first trip to the dentist. They both did so well. Keaton acted like it was no big deal. He stretched out and watched sponge bob while they worked on his teeth. Gavin was a little more nervous about them putting anything in his mouth. They ended up having to just use a regular toothbrush to brush his teeth because he didn’t like the vibration. The dental hygienist was so awesome with Gavin! She was able to get everything done, including x-rays, even though Gavin was not into it.

4-eyes and Elder Grotegut

A couple of days ago Gavin’s primary teacher from church dropped off his weekly lesson. We don’t attend church but she always drops off the lesson they did anyway. Well I guess this weeks lesson was on preparing for an LDS mission (Latter day saint, aka mormon) and they made badges for all the kids. Gavin’s say’s Elder Grotegut and he won’t take the thing off. He says he is Elder Grotegut and that his badge is a “Bakery Badge”. He apparently runs a bakery I didn’t know about. According to him its super successful too. I asked him about his profit margins and he seemed to know what I was talking about because he said they sell a lot of donuts to “guys with big bellies”. He must makes a killing then! Here is a picture of his “Bakery Badge”.

Yesterday I put Gav’s glasses on Keaters and took these adorable pictures:
